I’m sooooo over winter and its germs. I finally had my follow-up with PM&R last Monday and then the little man got the stomach bug, the big man (probably) got the flu, the dog randomly threw up a couple of times, then the little man got the flu. Of the past 11 days, the little dude has only been to school for 2 days and he keeps telling me he misses his friends 🙁
Here’s a rundown of the other medical goings-on of the past week.
it was one of those frustrating appointments where I left the appointment without much new information or guidance. These are my options:
- Do nothing
- Do the same PT again
- Do another injection, but since I’ve already had two he’ll only do one
The labral tear is there and worse than before, but it’s not definitely the source of my pain. Given the relief I had with the first injection, it’s likely the cause but we can’t be certain without doing other injections to rule out other causes.
SI joint pain and bursitis are likely secondary issues cause by my hip issue, which makes sense considering the first injection that I got into my hip joint relieved pain from my hip, SI joint, leg, back…
I asked if there’s a different type of therapy or different physical therapist I should consider – nope, I’ve already seen the top person he would send me to.
So the next step is to talk to a surgeon and get his take on everything. That appointment is scheduled for March 11th assuming the plague lifts by then.
Matters of the Heart
In the midst of the initial stomach bug/man flu outbreak, my heart monitor came so I wore that for some amount of time longer than 24 hours. Wearing it wasn’t bad but not sleeping at all Tuesday night because of the puker and then not sleeping Wednesday night because of the 3am and
I finally made it to the lab this morning for the cortisol and ACTH tests and the results were normal. On the lower end but normal is normal. It’s at least another data point to take to cardiology to figure out this puzzle because I’m still having issues with feeling lightheaded and almost fainted again last week. This shiz is getting really old.
But wait! There’s more!
I didn’t mention it in my last update because I wanted to actually talk to my doctor first because I’m not exactly trained to interpret MRI reports. There’s a lesion showing on/in my pelvic bone. PM&R said he doesn’t think it’s a metastasis but can’t completely rule it out given my history and the type of MRI that was done. For anxiety funsies, it’s in the general area where the bulk of my cancer has been found. So he talked to Dr. T and her office called me to move up my April scan
Nerd alert: I’m actually really impressed with the scheduling department because we’ve managed to put together an impressive stack of appointments…
- 9:30 am Cardiology at Perelman
- 12:00 MRI abdomen and pelvis at 39th and Market
- 4:00 pm back to Perelman to see Dr. T and discuss allll the things
Here’s hoping for some nice weather so I can take a little stroll through campus, maybe hit up the bookstore to give Penn yet even more of my money, maybe go wild and take a nap at my fraternity house… who knows!
